History was made last Saturday afternoon in Lidu as Beijing Celtics 2nd side picked up their first win in their very first competitive game. Against a Beijing Rockets team who were favourites to win the game, the Celtics cruised to a 3-1 victory in the first round of the cup.
After celebrating 15 years since Beijing Celtics establishment last year, it was decided this season to introduce a second side, to fulfil the demands of men all over Beijing who want to represent this magnificent family friendly football team.
The game started off with the Celtics dominating the midfield with Jeff Young dictating play with his magic wand of a left foot and in what was not the most magical shot the Jersey Boy found the bottom corner after the Rockets failed to clear the ball from a free- kick.
The Rockets looked to respond, but a composed and energetic Celtics side looked more likely to score the next goal with Enda Winters causing havoc turning Rockets defenders inside and out with his pace and fancy footwork. The Rockets survived a few scares, but just before half-time, they were undone once again with Will Gallagher scoring at the 2nd attempt after being put through on goal.
As we moved into the second half Celtic continued where they left off but conceded mid-way through the half as they were caught on the break when the Rockets found a way back into the game with a fine move.
Did the Celtics Panic? Of course not! A long ball was played over the top to debutante Sean McSheffrey and he raced to the ball ahead of the on-rushing keeper and showed his composure by playing the ball to the experienced Kieron Nolan who calm and collectively slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
The Celtics had further opportunities to extend their lead, but in the end, the game ended with the Celts marching on to the next round of the Cup. Up next is a league game against Too Sexy with the first team taking on Sexy FC in what should be an exciting doubleheader this Saturday.
